Sermon Series – P9: Praying Through the Psalms

The Book of Psalms is a collection of 150 ancient Hebrew poems, songs, and prayers that come from different eras in Israel’s history. In P9, we are looking at nine different Psalms that teach us unique aspects of prayer. We hope that both our minds and our hearts will be stirred by the words of the Psalms so that we might develop a more robust and fruitful prayer life.

Sometimes our surrounding environments can influence us to ignore our emotions and try to only focus on the positive! But what if this isn’t actually as helpful as it seems? What if what we truly need is often found in the midst of suffering and pain? The Bible gives voice to our pain and suffering through various expression of lament, a significant theme in the wisdom literature and poetry of the Old Testament. Our series will take us through the message of Lamentations, a book which gives sacred dignity to human suffering. This lent we will learn to lament as we seek to receive new mercy in the mourning.
