It is easy to think of giving as an obligation, duty, or at best, a discipline. Perhaps we understand it as a response to all that God has done for us. But what if the opportunity to give is not just a response, but part of the gift itself. In Paul’s second letter to the Corinthians, he describes the opportunity to give as a grace, a word in the original language which means gift. The fact that God has given us not only what we need, but enough to be able to give generously, is nothing less than an incredible gift of his grace.
