Calling
Scripture References: John 1:29-42
From Series: "Standing Strong"
John the Baptist is a bit of an unusual figure to say the least. Matthew’s gospels tells us that the Lord’s hand was upon his life from the very beginning, preparing him to be a voice in the wilderness. We are told he preached in the desert, wearing clothing made of camel’s hair, eating bugs and honey (a prophetic picture of his ministry and message). People journeyed out to be baptized by him because they were drawn to his message of repentance and new life. He was called to prepare people for the arrival of Jesus and the Kingdom of God. He called people to repent and start living in a way that represents this new Kingdom. Ultimately, standing strong for truth led powerful people to orchestrate his execution. We will look to John’s story for inspiration and instruction as we seek to proclaim the truth in the spiritual wilderness of our day.
